Adaptation of first-year students to the higher education system (in the context of distance learning)

Abstract

The article examines the problem of adaptation of first-year students to study at a higher educational institution. In particular, special attention is paid to the integration of students who have recently started their education into the university environment in the context of distance learning, that is, online learn- ing that took place during the self-isolation caused by the pandemic.

The purpose of the study is to comprehensively consider the adaptation of young people to higher education, identify pressing problems that arise during this process, find solutions to the problems iden- tified in the study so that adaptation to student life is effective, quick and convenient. The main idea of the work is to give recommendations on optimizing the integration of freshmen into the academic environment, proving that a number of personal factors and social factors of the environment, as well as some methods of adaptation of young people, contribute to their rapid development in the university environment.

The scientific significance of the research is due to the comprehensive study of the process of adap- tation of first-year students to higher education and student life. The article provides a brief overview of the work of domestic, Russian and foreign scientists on this topic. The practical significance of the work lies in the fact that it can serve as a basis for future research on this topic. 

The article presents the results of an online survey of first-year students. As a result, the features of adaptation of students in the first academic year, as well as methods and factors that effectively affect the integration of students, were identified.

The research results can be used in the future at universities, institutes, academies in the develop- ment of programs for adaptation of first-year students to the higher education system, as well as in teach- ing disciplines such as sociology of education, sociology of youth.
