THE RELATIONSHIP OF INDIVIDUAL-PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS WITH INDICATORS ON THE BECK SCALE IN ADOLESCENTS WITH SUICIDAL THOUGHTS

Abstract

This article presents the results of a study of the relationship between personality traits and measures of depression, anxiety, and hopelessness among adolescents with suicidal thoughts.

The purpose of the study was to determine the individual-personality characteristics that are most inherent among adolescents with suicidal thoughts, as well as the relationship of these characteristics with measures of anxiety, depression, hopelessness, and suicidal thoughts on the Beck scales.

Through correlation analysis, we found that adolescents with high scores on such scales as rigidity, individualism, and introversion are more prone to suicidal thoughts.

The study was conducted on the basis of the S. Sklyar Psychotherapy Center by interviewing adolescents who applied to the Center with complaints of suicidal thoughts. Individual-personality characteristics were determined using the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI). The study determined the correlation between the MMPI scales and indicators of Beck's anxiety, depression, hopelessness, and suicidal thoughts scales.

The value and significance of the study consists in the fact that its results can be used to develop a plan of precautionary measures to prevent suicidal behavior among adolescents, as well as to determine the targets of individual psychotherapy for adolescents who are at risk.
