Art-therapy application possibilities in work with adolescents

Abstract

The article studies the application possibilities of art therapy in work with adolescents. In recent years, art therapy is one of the fastest growing forms of work with young people. Nowadays this little known direction, is attracting more and more attention in our country. The reasons for this lie in the «soft­ ness» and environmental friendliness of the method by which those aspects of our lives are harmonized and investigated, for whom words are of little or no good at all. Art­therapeutic games, exercises and techniques – is effective, affordable, simple form of «fast» psychological assistance to adolescents who find themselves in difficult situations. Unconscious internal conflicts and emo­ tions is often easier to express by means of visual images than to express them in words. Expressive activity is an alternative to the «language» more precise and expressive than words, it is a tool for the study of the unconscious man. Art therapy provides access to internal conflicts and strong emotions, helps in the interpretation of repressed emotions, promotes self­esteem of a teenager. The article deals with the views of the researchers and the author’s own position on the possibility of using art therapy as a method of psy­ chological effects, used for treatment, psycho­correction, psychological prophylaxis, rehabilitation teenager. The author comes to the following conclusions: art therapy offers an absolutely safe way of expressing inner feelings teenagers. Art therapy is useful in the evaluation and treatment of depression. Art therapy serves as an effective support system for adolescents experiencing various kinds of addiction, depression, lack of self­esteem and socialization problems. Possibilities of art therapy can solve such important problems as the forma­ tion of self­regulation and control over their behavior, the ability to inhibit affective symptoms, and prevention of acts of aggression and increased conflict, socio­cultural and cognitive development of the adolescent.
