Abstract

The article is devoted to studying the role of social work as a mecha­ nism of social protection of the population in emergency situations. The growth trend of natural and man­made disasters recorded worldwide and is accompanied by a large loss of human recourses, material and social losses for the standard of living of the population. It requires the involve­ ment of social workers in social assistance to the affected population, their social adaptation and rehabilitation. Therefore, it is important to develop this area of social work. The authors define the functions and principles of social work in emergency situations. The article states the need to develop mechanisms and forms of social protection, specific approaches and tech­ niques of social work, which will reduce the impact of emergencies. Based on the case study by expert interview method it is justified the necessity and have been done recommendations on widespread adoption of social work professionals in the organization of social assistance to the popula­ tion in emergency situations.
