Metamorphosis of Envy: Vice and Aggression.

Abstract

This article is dedicated to analysis of envy as a psychological phenomenon and an attribute of human existence. Envy is viewed in an ethical, social and cultural, psychological and psychoanalytical context. Envy is assessed from a position of the activity approach, the framing theory, frustration and self-actualization. The article reviews ambivalence of envy, its sources, components, aims, levels and forms, as well as methods to get rid of envy. Special attention is given to destructive and aggressive expression of envy, as well as possibilities to overcome it.
