Abstract

This article indicates a growing consensus internationally that human rights principles underpin education for citizenship in multicultural de­ mocracies. The article stresses that students should be participating in de­ mocracy at school: decision­making about school life, school governance and policy making. The article addresses the importance of deliberation or decision­making discussion, weighing up alternatives to decide the best course of action.
