Social vulnerability of the population in emergency situations

Abstract

XXI century is a period of complex socio-historical changes, which is characterized by a deepening influence of the process of industrialization and urbanization on society and the formation of global consciousness. Scientists and researchers are concerned about the sharp increase in social cataclysms, natural and man-made disasters of an extraordinary nature, and the increase in their negative social consequences. Every day, the media increasingly convey different emergency nature of the information,such as explosions, fires, plane crashes, disasters at sea and ocean ships, floods, epidemics, riots, civil
wars, and others. Such crises have a direct impact on the formation of collision and risk situations, in such cases, researching the vulnerability of people is very important. Vulnerability is the state of adaptation to the adoption of adverse effects from the impact of crises in relation to environmental and social
changes. Vulnerability means the link between the real danger to life of the population and the ability of society to fight against them. This article will analyze the vulnerability of mankind due to various environmental consequences, technological changes, as well as its direct and indirect influence on many
social and economic conditions. For example, the impact of cases like poverty and social inequality, the level of access to natural resources on people’s oopportunities will be described. Based on a sociological survey that was conducted with residents who experienced emergency situations, the author gives an assessment of the level of feeling of protection of the population of the country from various dangers at the moment. The scientific and practical importance of the article is that its main ideas and conclusions are determined by their ability to use for improving social protection measures of the population, the vulnerability of the population, their preparation for emergencies, and the habit of adaptation.The materials of the work can contribute to organizations of different activities in the field of nature protection and public health protection, ecology, social security, environmental sociology.
